Chief Financial Officer
Bill Scarfia is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in California and New York and holds the position of the Chamber’s Chief Financial Officer. He was the Chief Financial Officer of Danielson Trust Company, a division of the publicly traded Danielson Holding Corporation (now Covanta) from 1994 to 1997. Prior to that, Mr. Scarfia was employed in a variety of positions with Mobil Oil Corporation (now Exxon Mobil), Columbia Pictures Corporation (now Sony) and the Public Accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). He was a Probation Officer for the Superior Court of Washington, D.C. from 1971 to 1976, and served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971, when he received his Honorable Discharge.
Bill received the San Diego Business Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011, and was voted “CFO of the Year” for Not For Profit organizations in 2007.
Bill has served on the Board of The NeighborhoodHouse Association, as the Finance Committee Chairman and is currently a member of the Audit Committee. He served on the Board of the “Herb Klein Legacy Fund” of the San Diego Foundation, a donor advised fund that seeks to support educational and research programs that enhance the economic vitality of the region and is a former member of the First Five Commission of San Diego. He also serves on the Balboa Park Centennial Corporation’s Audit and Finance Committees.
Bill is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California CPA Society.
Bill holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. (1976), a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Windsor, Ontario, (1969), and a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from Assumption College, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, (1967). In 1969, Bill was selected as the Detroit Edison Fellow at the University of Windsor for his work and thesis on Canadian American Relations in Asia.
