The Advocacy Arm of the Chamber

The Public Policy Department is responsible for monitoring all related actions taken by Local, State and Federal Governmental bodies that could have either a positive or negative impact on the business community in San Diego. The Department maintains a continuing dialogue with elected and appointed officials at all levels of government and various quasi-government agencies such as the San Diego Port District, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the Metropolitan Transit Development Board (MTDB), and the Air Pollution Control District, to name a few. The communication and interaction with the various agencies focus on economic and regional issues that impact the business community.

The Department committee process generates thorough research that is used to develop policy positions regarding various local and regional issues in San Diego. The policy positions, once adopted by the appropriate committees, are presented to the Board of Directors for discussion and formal adoption. After a policy is adopted, the Department staff disseminates the information to the Chamber of Commerce membership and begins to discuss the positions with the appropriate officials.

The mission of the Public Policy Department is to influence the development of policies and regulations that aid in the creation of regional opportunities for job creation, business growth and financial success, and the creation of new market links and opportunities for Chamber members.
