Jeff Gattas is Assistant Chancellor and Chief of Staff to UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. Jeff serves as strategic advisor to the chancellor and the campus executive leadership team, providing expertise and counsel on all aspects of leading an internationally-ranked public research university. He is the chief communications officer and oversees UC San Diego’s public relations, media relations, marketing, and government and community relations. Jeff joined UC San Diego in 2007 where he served in roles including Senior Director of Public Affairs and Executive Director of University Communications and Public Affairs. Prior to working at UC San Diego, he was San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders’ Director of City Council Affairs, acting as liaison between the City Council and the Mayor’s office. In addition, he served as Chief of Staff/Policy to San Diego City Councilmember and Acting Mayor Toni Atkins and District Director and Press Secretary for California Assemblymember Denise Moreno Ducheny. He also has managed and advised on several national, state, and local political campaigns. Jeff has a B.A. in Business Administration and an M.A. in Mass Communications from San Diego State University. He completed Harvard University’s Senior Executive program in State and Local Government at John F. Kennedy School of Government. Jeff is active in the community and, currently, he is on the Executive Committee for LEAD San Diego, the Downtown San Diego Partnership Board of Directors, and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors.
