Port of San Diego

Job Nelson serves as the Assistant Vice President-External Relations for the Port of San Diego. In that role, he oversees marketing and communications operations, government and civic relations, and arts and culture for the Port District. Job was promoted from his previous role as Director of Government and Civic Relations where he directed all federal, state and regional lobbying efforts, as well as grants. He served in a similar role for the City of San Diego where he worked for Mayor Jerry Sanders as Director of Intergovernmental Relations. During his time with Mayor Sanders, the City secured over a billion dollars in state and federal funding. Job’s career in public service includes time as a Chief of Staff for a City Councilmember, as well as serving as Senior Policy Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff to former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding, and as a Policy Consultant to the California Senate Minority Leader. He served as a liaison to the California Big 10 Mayor’s Alliance and as a representative at the Urban Partnership Advisory Group run by the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Job Nelson’s private sector experience includes heading up University Relations and Strategic Planning for Point Loma Nazarene University, serving as a Public Affairs Director with Public Policy Strategies, and serving as a Research Analyst with the local polling firm--Competitive Edge Research. Job Nelson has a BA in Communications from Point Loma Nazarene University and an MA in Public Policy from Claremont Graduate University.
