NEW FREE WORKSHOPS, hosted by DeVry University, and taught by DeVry faculty!
The Chamber is excited to partner with DeVry University to bring valuable workshop content geared to the entrepreneur/small business owner.
- This is a tremendous opportunity to increase business acumen and expertise, as an included membership benefit and no additional cost to your business.
- In addition to personal, professional development, Chamber members are encouraged to use Chamber Academy workshops to develop staff – groom future managers, cross-train employees, build company morale!
- Workshop format is (Brown Bag) Lunch & Learn-style with a short period allocated to member-networking.
Communication: Articulating Your Business Mission Workshop Presented by Dr. Paula Herring, DeVry University. Workshop 3 of 3 for Chamber Completion Certificate in Business Foundations
Do you find yourself struggling with language, phrasing or verbiage when sharing your organization’s mission? Do you hesitate responding when you are asked “What does your company do”? This workshop is dedicated to you and your mission. Time is spent fine tuning details regarding word choice, action verbs, timing and rehearing the details regarding your business. In our time together, we will articulate your organization’s mission statement and align it to your elevator pitch and branding theme.
Dr. Herring’s professional career path led her to the field of adult education for 20 years, following a career in international business and non-profit fundraising. She is full time faculty at DeVry University and Faculty Chair at the San Diego Campus, teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, including courses on the topics of public speaking, human resources, critical thinking and leadership. Her mission as an educator includes the desire for each person to complete her courses knowing they have great potential and significant thoughts, ideas and action plans to help others and to lead by example.
Her dissertation field work took her to Rwanda where she studied women and their business start-ups. Publications and international presentations range in topic from entrepreneurship, branding, community engagement and business leadership. She has many interests and enjoys board work for various non-profits, such as the Survivors of Torture, International and active with the San Diego Diplomacy Council, hosting guests in her home from all over the world. She visits at least one new country every year and also enjoys scholarship, cycling, running, theatre, opera, art, and social activism. She is a believer in life-long learning and community engagement.

SDRCC Completion Certificate will be awarded to attendees who complete all three workshops in a series.
