According to the CDC, following a public health reassessment, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky moved forward with terminating Title 42. In effect, this means that unaccompanied non-citizen children will not be expelled from the United States under CDC’s order.
DHS Secretary Mayorkas released a statement in response to the CDC’s announcement to end Title 42, which currently grants the U.S. government the ability to ‘prohibit the entrance of individuals to mitigate the spread of a contagious disease’ and authorizes border officials to promptly turn around and deport migrants. It was initially enacted for 30 days in March of 2020 but extended indefinitely later on.
