City Proposal Will Require Contractor Accountability

The City of San Diego will be considering a citywide proposal to require more transparency and accountability of contractors and subcontractors on a development project with the goal to create a culture of safety and legal compliance on a job site. The current proposal will require permit applicants to provide information about their contractors and subcontractors when applying for building, electrical, plumbing/mechanical, demolition/removal, grading, public right-of-way, and fire permits. The proposal recently passed the Land Use & Housing Committee with Councilmembers noting the need to continue engaging with business and labor stakeholders to address concerns prior to it going to the City Council. Earlier this year, the County of San Diego passed their version of an ordinance and the data they require from contractors.
