The Chamber, in partnership with the San Diego Regional EDC, hosted a meeting and roundtable discussion to welcome U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai to San Diego. The conversation covered ongoing USTR priorities including supply chain resilience, USMCA, and inclusivity, as well as emerging industries such as clean energy, AI, infrastructure, technology, and small business programming. Chamber members and regional stakeholders including SDG&E, Cordoba Corporations, Viasat, and TOOTRiS had the opportunity to voice concerns on supply chain disruptions, the importance of implementing sector-specific policies, and a need to further develop implementation criteria for the CHIPS Act.
As we head into the revisions of the USMCA Sunset Clause in 2026, Ambassador Tai shared plans to develop and codify a communication mechanism with regional stakeholders to leverage USMCA opportunities, attract and retain FDI that contributes to North American economy and community prosperity, and address implementation challenges and concerns.
