Earlier this month, Governor Gavin Newsom visited our border region and Chamber’s COO and Executive Vice President, Jessica Anderson, joined the Governor on a business roundtable and press conference on border efficiency and the impact of tariffs on cross-border economic prosperity and global competitiveness.
Governor Newsom announced the completion of the Otay Mesa East Land Port of entry by December of 2027 and efforts to finalize a design contract by the end of this year. Increased resources to protect public safety and hinder drug trafficking across port of entry, including the deployment of additional CalGuard’s Counterdrug Task Forces, were also announced. CalGuard will additionally target the contraband of firearms and money from the U.S. into Mexico and work closely with the U.S. Department of State to facilitate military partnership with Mexico under the Federal State Partnership Program.
