Chamber Sponsored Bills Move Forward

Two Chamber-sponsored bills are moving forward in Sacramento! The Chamber is the proud sponsor of Assembly Bill 1834 (Patel), which would create a faster approval process for mixed-use development projects. The Chamber is a co-sponsor of AB 2433 (Alvarez), which would make important updates to the State Density Bonus Law, a successful housing program.

AB 1834 would allow mixed-use projects located on mixed-use base zones to receive a tentative map exemption, saving on average 9-12 months for projects that bring together much needed housing and commercial space. This bill would bring these projects into alignment with mixed-use projects on industrial and commercial base zones. The bill has been referred to the Assembly Local Government Committee.

AB 2433 makes changes to State Density Bonus Law, a piece of housing legislation that has successfully contributed to thousands of homes across the State. The bill would make technical changes, providing the opportunity for more affordable housing, increased incentives for the creation of for-sale housing, and the chance for housing projects using this program to be approved “by-right”. The bill has been referred to three committees (Assembly Housing, Assembly Local Government, and Assembly Natural Resources) and will be heard in Assembly Housing..

The Chamber participated in a press conference for AB 2433 with the bill’s author, Assemblymember David Alvarez. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the Assemblymember on this important effort to create more homes for San Diegans!
