World Design Capital

The Tijuana-San Diego region is the first ever cross-border region to be represented at the World Design Capital by the World Design Organization. This designation, through a series of events and efforts, has showcased the region’s global hub for design, innovation, arts, and culture. This week, the World Design Capital is hosting three signature events which mark the near closure of this year-long celebration. The World Design Policy Conference featured experts from around the world who convened to focus on the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies that enhance urban life and advance initiatives on a global scale. The World Design Network of Cities Meeting provided a unique opportunity for the region to maintain an active dialogue about the effective use of design. To wrap it up, the World Design Convocation Ceremony honored the community, individuals, partners, organizations, and institutions that have contributed to the civic projects in our region’s history.

Chamber VP of International and Public Affairs Kenia Zamarripa participated in the WDC Design Policy Conference on a conversation on our binational region’s cross-border workforce, work to advance affordable housing opportunities, plans to integrate urban mobility, and the role that design plays in these efforts.

Congratulations to Frankfurt, which has been selected as the 2026 World Design Capital!
