Hugo Carmona

Hugo Carmona has over ten years of experience in public policy, legal advocacy, and community affairs. Since 2016, Hugo has worked with Cox Communications in their Government Affairs department focusing primarily on state legislative issues. Prior to joining Cox, Hugo worked in the district office of Congressman Scott Peters, most recently as his Deputy District Director, overseeing an office of seven staffers and managing a portfolio that included military, veterans, transportation, commerce, immigration, and bi-national affairs. Hugo participated in the 2014 efforts to secure Federal funding for the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the world’s busiest land port of entry, to improve infrastructure and cross-border commerce. Prior to working with Congressman Peters, Hugo worked at several boutique law firms and gained experience with labor, union organizing efforts, immigration, and housing. Before starting his legal career, Hugo worked in local government as a staff member at the San Diego City Council. Hugo is a member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Young Leaders Board of Directors and a 2016 LEAD Impact graduate. Hugo is a member of the State Bar of California, graduated from UC Hastings College of the Law, and earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.
