• Juan Manuel Gastélum was born on October 31st, 1954 in Tijuana, Baja California. He is currently the mayor of the City of Tijuana. He obtained a Law Degree from the University of Sonora and a Masters Degree in Civil Law from Centro de Estudios de Posgrado de Derecho in Mexico City. • Mayor Gatélum was elected on June 5th, 2016. In 2012, he served as a Federal Congressman elected by relative majority to the 62nd Legislature of the Mexican Congress. He previously served as Secretary of Tourism and Border Issues Commissions, where he led the opposition to the Added Value Tax increase in the border region. • Mayor Gastélum also served as Baja California State Congressman during its 19th Legislature. • Gastélum is the mayor of the largest city in the state of Baja California Mexico, a young city with 129 years of history that shares its borders with San Diego, California and is home to 1.6 million citizens. • Mayor Gastelum leads with mayor of San Diego as Co-Chairs of the Border Mayors Association, as well the trilateral committee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. • Tijuana and San Diego have the most dynamic border in all of the United States and México combined, an area known as the CaliBaja Region, with 50 million passengers crossing the border every year. • 272 businesses from the US are established in Tijuana.
