The Chamber team joined CETYS Universidad and Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy for an initiative between public sector, private sector and academia to identify inhibitors that become a challenge to our regional competitiveness including government regulations, logistics and import/export process. The kick off to this initiative included a visit from the Undersecretary for Competitiveness at Mexico’s Secretariat of the Economy, Rocio Ruiz Chávez.

In 2005, Angel’s Depot Founder and Executive Director Susan Hall learned that 50,000 San Diego County seniors live in poverty with inadequate aid to provide for their most basic needs. Ms. Hall, a seasoned nonprofit professional, founded The Angel’s Depot on July 17, 2005 with a mission to provide food for the elderly poor living in San Diego County and to help improve the quality of their lives. Through The Angel’s Depot, Ms. Hall promotes community awareness and support for impoverished seniors, and acts as a conduit to other available senior resources.
San Diego’s seniors in need are men and women who fought wars, paid taxes and built this country. They are also from a proud generation who find it difficult to ask for help and yet, struggle to maintain their dignity and independence.
To address this crisis, The Angel’s Depot created the “Senior Emergency Meal Box” Program, a unique, simple and efficient senior feeding strategy that engages the community in solving senior hunger. These free Senior Emergency Meal Boxes are specially formulated to meet the nutritional needs of seniors living with food insecurity and at-risk for malnutrition. Selected food items are high in protein, fiber and folates with moderate sugar.
Since 2006, The Angel’s Depot, with only a staff of 5.5 employees, has provided:
1.849 million pounds of specially-formulated food to meet the nutritional needs of seniors who are at-risk for malnutrition and live with the anxiety of food insecurity.. San Diego Country Club is proud to receive the award of “Best Greens in Southern California” from FORE Magazine, the official publication of the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA). SDCC has been a distinctive part of San Diego’s Golf History for more than a century. Our classic course promises an exceptional golf experience every time you play. Our country club caters to making outings, evenings and special events as memorable as they can be.
We are proud to host the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur tournament on August 7-13. The club has hosted the same tournament in 1993 and a U.S. Women’s open in 1964. Also, we have hosted the 1952 and 53 San Diego Open (now the Farmers Insurance Open).

Chamber staff participated in a “Frontera Friday” meeting which featured Antonio Ortiz-Mena, the former Head of Section for Economic Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C. Frontera Friday is a quarterly event organized by the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies and the Urban Studies and Planning Program at UC San Diego to connect leaders from both sides of the border to the University and to serve as a platform for learning, networking and discussing opportunities to strengthen our binational region. The meeting focused on the binational maritime infrastructure and its importance to our regional economy, and included a visit to the Port of San Diego and the Port of Ensenada.
