Jan is a retired teacher/principal who created a project called The Butterfly Project. This global project takes Holocaust education out of the textbook and brings it to life in a way that inspires students to fight bullying, Anti-Semitism, bigotry, and prejudice. Students participate in presentations by family members of Holocaust Survivors. Jan and her Education Team have created lesson plans and hands-on activities to help present the Holocaust in a gentle way. This year alone TBP presented to over 20 schools, grades 4-12. Over 200,000 ceramic butterflies, representing the 1.5 million children who were murdered in the Holocaust were painted in schools, churches, synagogues, and mosques all over San Diego County and around the world.
