USMCA Public Comment Period and Coalition Letters

The U.S. Trade Representative Office (USTR) and the Secretariat of Economy in Mexico have opened their public comment period as we look ahead to the revisions of the USMCA agreement. The Chamber is holding conversations with members and stakeholders on both sides of the border to ensure our region’s voice is heard during this period and will elevate several recommendations that would directly benefit our community. These include streamlined customs procedures and maximizing data sharing across customs agencies; prioritizing comprehensive customs training for Mexico; language to safeguard against retaliatory tariffs or non-USMCA import surcharges; supporting market diversification; and protecting cross-border resources including commitments under the 1944 water treaty between the U.S. and Mexico, and prioritizing funding for the modernization, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure to mitigate polluted, transboundary flows impacting the Tijuana River Valley.

A coalition letter will be submitted through our membership with Border Trade Alliance, and a second letter through partners with Border Trade Alliance Mexico. The Chamber has also signed a coalition letter through the U.S. Chamber to elevate the importance of the trilateral agreement for our national economy.
