CaliBaja Summit Renews Binational MOU and Sets 2027 Priorities

The Chamber, in partnership with regional stakeholders including UC San Diego, Institute of the Americas, and Tijuana EDC, brought forward the second edition of the CaliBaja Business Summit, a binational conference held earlier this month. Chamber’s VP of International and Public Affairs, Kenia Zamarripa participated in a panel discussion sharing insight on the Chamber’s leadership and efforts to elevate our region’s priorities through advocacy, partnerships, and direct engagement with policymakers in Mexico and the U.S. The Summit also featured key stakeholders, including the Consul Generals of Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.

The discussion also provided an opportunity to reflect on the Chamber’s 20th annual binational delegation to Mexico City, where more than 100 business, civic, and government leaders engage every year directly with Mexican officials on trade, border infrastructure, water, energy, and other shared priorities. As we begin planning our 2027 agenda, these conversations and partnerships will help shape the next phase of our efforts to advance our region’s economic competitiveness and strengthen US-MX cooperation.

A major milestone of the Summit was the renewal of our binational Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) alongside eight other regional organizations from San Diego and Tijuana. This agreement establishes priorities for joint action in 2027, including addressing transboundary pollution, strengthening binational economic development and investment opportunities, and advancing talent development across our region.

Later that evening, the Chamber team joined the Consulate General of Canada for a reception welcoming Kamal Khera, Canada’s new Consul General to the region. Representing Canada across Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada, Consul General Khera will help strengthen partnerships and expand collaboration in trade and investment, technology and innovation, energy, and the creative industries.
