The Midway Rising project is one step closer to breaking ground! The City of San Diego’s Land Use and Housing Committee unanimously voted to advance the project to the full City Council for their approval. Once the Council approves the project’s Environmental Impact Report, shovels can hit the dirt. The Council also approved the creation of an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District, or EIFD, for the project. An EIFD is an increment tax financing mechanism that allows taxes generated in the project’s area to remain in that area for infrastructure improvements.
Chamber Director of Public Affairs Evan Strawn spoke in support of the project at the Committee hearing. The project will create 4,000 homes, including 2,000 affordable homes, a brand-new entertainment arena, parks, and retail space. It will additionally create thousands of jobs and revitalize the Midway area. We look forward to continuing our advocacy for the project as it reaches the full City Council.
