Chamber co-sponsored AB 2433 (Alvarez) was signed into law by Governor Newsom on September 29th, marking an important legislative victory for efforts to expand housing production and affordability in California. The bill, sponsored by Circulate San Diego and additionally co-sponsored by SPUR, Inner City Law Center, and Greenbelt Alliance, modernizes and makes important technical changes to State Density Bonus Law, which has been the most utilized and most successful state housing legislation. AB 2433 allows for more deeply affordable housing to be
built using Density Bonus Law, incentivizes for-sale housing to promote homeownership, and allows for different density calculations.
We were proud that the bill unanimously passed the State Senate and are thankful to Governor Newsom for his signing of this important legislation which will allow more homes to be built for San Diegans and Californians across the state. The Chamber’s support reflects our continued advocacy for policies that address California’s housing shortage, reduce regulatory barriers, and expand housing opportunities. Increasing housing supply and affordability remains essential to supporting our workforce, strengthening economic competitiveness, and addressing the rising cost of living and doing business in San Diego.
