Presbyterian Urban Ministries (PUM)

Presbyterian Urban Ministries (PUM), formerly known as the Crisis Center, is a ministry of the Presbytery of San Diego, a nonprofit 501(C) 3 organization. PUM ministers to the urban poor and homeless in San Diego. The services provided by PUM today began in 1968 as an extension of the Greater Parish Ministry of the Los Angeles Presbytery. We’re currently located at 2459 Market Street, San Diego and you can visit us online at www.pumsd.org or www.golf4good.org.

PUM ministers to thousands of people every year. Many of those served are earnestly working to become self-sufficient. Providing them a hand-up, like a pair of steel toed work-boots, food assistance, or transportation vouchers can make the difference between getting back on their feet or falling downward onto hard times. For these people, PUM is an empowering ministry.

Presbyterian Urban Ministries offers the following services to our clients:

  • Job seeking assistance including:
    • Help in obtaining identification documents and birth certificates
    • Access to computers for employment search
    • Community Voice Mail and email accounts for contact by prospective employers
    • Clothing suitable for interviews
    • Steel toed boots when required for employment
    • Financial help for obtaining job required tools
  • Non-narcotic prescription assistance
  • Optometry assistance
  • Temporary shelter for clients through Interfaith Shelter Network
  • Bus passes for temporary transportation
  • Emergency food bags
  • Hygiene items
  • Clothing for children and adults
  • Back to school backpacks for children

In addition to providing financial donations, great opportunities exist for volunteering at PUM. Besides providing vital support, volunteering can be a very rewarding experience. Information on volunteer opportunities may be obtained by contacting PUM Director Raul Palomino, MBA at 619 232 2753.

We are called to love and to provide for those in need as well as to interact face to face with them, acknowledging that while we minister to them, they also minister to us.
