Carlos Manuel Urzúa Macías

@CarlosUrzuaSHCP Urzúa received his bachelor’s degree from the Tecnolgico de Monterrey in 1975 and later his masters from Civestav in 1978. Both degrees were in Mathematics.  He then decided to pursue his Ph. D in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986.  He started his career as a professor for the Tecnolgico de Monterrey.  Urzúa has taught in many prestigious universities including George Town, Princeton and the Colegio de M  Later on he was appointed as the Secretary of Finance for MCity under the mayor Andrópez Obrador. He served from 2000 to 2003 as the Secretary of Finance. Urzúa left to fund a graduate school program for public policy in his alma mater Tecnolgico de Monterrey.  He directed this program for ten years. Aside from his work in academia he has done research for a variety of topics about aspects of the México’s economy, fiscal policy, monetary policy, tax reform, and international trade.  Over the years, he has worked for the World Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the United Nations Development Programme and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
