Elizabeth Fitzsimons

As Vice President, Leadership & Engagement, Elizabeth is responsible for the development and implementation of the five leadership development programs offered through Chamber affiliate LEAD San Diego. She works in partnership with the President and Board of Directors to achieve LEAD’s goal of educating, inspiring, and connecting people through high-caliber programming, thereby creating a pipeline of developed leaders who elevate themselves, their organizations, and positively transform the San Diego region. Elizabeth also leads the Chamber’s strategic marketing communications efforts. She ensures that all outreach aligns with and supports the organization’s strategic direction as it fights to make San Diego the most business-friendly region in California. Elizabeth and team are responsible for developing strategy and tactics to create interest, demand, and recognition for the Chamber and LEAD through media relations; web, social, and print communications; advertising; strategic relationships; direct and online marketing; and more than 60 events a year. Previously, Elizabeth was Senior Director of Marketing & Communications at Rady Children’s Hospital. There, she oversaw a repositioning initiative; media relations; web, video and social media; internal communications; and strategic communications planning for the hospital and its foundation. Prior to Rady Children’s, Elizabeth worked at the County of San Diego in media and public relations and internal communications. She started her career in San Diego as a journalist at The San Diego Union-Tribune. Elizabeth is a 2013 graduate of LEAD’s IMPACT program. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from American University in Washington, D.C. Elizabeth serves on the Board of Directors for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the Board of Library Commissions for the City of San Diego, and the board of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Bankers Hill. She lives in Del Cerro with her husband, daughter, and twin sons.
