City Council Approves Land Development Code Update

The San Diego City Council approved the Land Development Code’s 2022 Code Update, a package that includes streamlining and aligning new regulatory requirements in our City’s development regulations.

Included in this update was the proposal to incorporate the definition of  Sustainable Development Areas (SDAs), which will replace the City’s definition of “Transit Priority Areas” in their local housing incentive programs.

This proposal will increase the housing supply in our region because the new definition adds more developable acreage in transit-oriented areas by removing the “as the crow flies” distance and instead allows a local program to be used if the development is accessible to a major public transit stop up to a 1-mile walk.

The change also removes other areas that would otherwise be less accessible to public transit.

The Chamber along with a diverse coalition was in support of the item.
