ABOUT OUR HOST

Since 1973, the Fleet Science Center has been a central link between science, schools and scientific organizations, collaborating with the communities that call San Diego County home. Its mission is simple yet bold: to realize a San Diego where everyone is connected to the power of science. The organization delivers on this mission through engaging experiences and culturally driven education programs in neighborhoods throughout the county and the historic Balboa Park flagship location. From interactive exhibits and school field trips to free science programs, the Fleet is forward-thinking and consistently evolving to create positive change in the world. To learn more, visit www.fleetscience.org.

Countywide community programs and initiatives are key, complementary components to the galleries of interactive exhibits you’re enjoying at our flagship location. The Fleet works with community partners to lower barriers to engagement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through initiatives such as the San Ysidro STEM Fair and Wraparound Services for STEM Learning in National City. The after-school program Sci-Tech inspires girls in grades 4–6 to pursue STEM aspirations, and Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering (BE WiSE) continues that positive path. In this program, female and female-identifying students in grades 7–12 interact with women STEM professionals in the San Diego area and participate in learning experiences that prepare them for STEM careers. In fact, many BE WiSE alumnae are now mentors in this program.
