Veterans Honor Roll

The Veterans Honor Roll initiative, which is led by the Chamber’s Defense, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, aims to increase the hiring of veterans throughout the San Diego region. There are nearly 15,000 active duty based in San Diego leaving the service each year, and half of them choose to stay local– joining more than 200,000 veterans who currently call San Diego home. It behooves both business and public agencies alike to recognize the immense potential and expertise these former service members offer as an employee. The Chamber encourages interested businesses to consider building their own veteran hiring program, or to inform Chamber staff if they have recently hired a veteran.

Chamber members with veteran, military spouse, National Guard and/or reservist employees may submit an application to be awarded as an Honor Roll recipient.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award, Chamber members must:

  • Hire a veteran, military spouse, National Guard and/or reservist and employ them for 90 days (minimum),
  • Submit an application to Chamber Public Policy staff, and
  • Identify their level of hiring per the application guidelines

Awards Package

Recipients of the Honor Roll will receive the following package:

  • Business highlight at Board of Director’s Meeting following designation
  • Decal to use in physical storefront and/or in web or promotional items
  • Social media highlight from the Chamber
  • Business logo featured on Chamber website (updated quarterly)
  • Joint letter of congratulations from Chamber President & CEO, Jerry Sanders
  • Press release and annual report language ready for modification and use

Businesses with an employee population comprised of at least 10 percent veterans are eligible to receive the following:

  • Recognition at the Flag, General & Senior Officers Ball
  • Eligibility for Small Business Award
  • Eligibility for Honor Roll Member of the Year Award – presented at the Flag Ball
  • Opportunity to be featured as a “Success Story” on Chamber website and other marketing materials
  • All other incentives included in the standard Honor Roll Award Package
