U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar visited Mexicali and met with Baja Governor Marina del Pilar Avila to discuss migration issues, binational water supply, environmental protection, and economic development along the border.
The visit consisted of Ambassador Salazar touring the Calexico West and Mexicali I ports of entry with Governor Avila, traveling south to the Laguna Grande to examine efforts to restore the ecosystem closely, and visiting an irrigation canal-modernization project in the Mexicali Valley financed by the United States.
