The Chamber’s Public Policy Committee discussed two board letters considered by the Board of Supervisors this week. In both cases, the committee directed staff to draft letters expressing concerns. The policies are:

Right of Way Done Right – which provides direction to County staff to return within 120 days with a policy to require prevailing wage on permits in the right of way that require traffic control. This will primarily impact companies in the energy, utility, and telecom industries.

Warehouse Ordinance – which provides direction to County staff to return within a year to develop a warehouse worker ordinance that would include environmental requirements and pay standards on warehouses that operate in the unincorporated area and on County-owned land. The model ordinance included in the board letter includes a new operating permit that would extend the jurisdiction of the County’s new Office of Labor Standards & Enforcement, create a “good neighbor” policy similar to the Inland Empire, and emphasize electrification and infrastructure, among other things.
