Innovation & AI Day left our Impact cohort inspired and energized by the groundbreaking ideas and technologies shaping our region’s future.
Hosted by Shana Wilson and Cox Communications, the day explored how innovation and artificial intelligence are transforming industries across San Diego from economic development to healthcare delivery.
We kicked off with Dr. Karen Boyd, Director of Research at the Policy & Innovation Center, who broke down AI and our economy.
The Innovation Economy Panel, moderated by Julius Alejandro, M.S. of Village Up San Diego, featured Oralia Alvarez of Mission Driven Finance and Michael Amin Iman of Gaia, who discussed how collaboration, access to capital, and technology are fueling growth in San Diego’s innovation ecosystem.
In the afternoon, Dr. Karandeep Singh, Chief Health AI Officer at UC San Diego Health, shared how AI is being used to enhance care systems. The conversation continued with our Healthcare Innovation Panel, moderated by Evan Strawn of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, featuring Dan Exley of Sharp HealthCare and Veronica Dela Rosa of San Ysidro Health, who shared their efforts to redefine healthcare operations and patient experience.
We wrapped up the day with Jon Magpayo of Cox Business, who offered a personal perspective on integrating AI tools into everyday work and life. Then, we had a firsthand look at innovation infrastructure with a BTS tour of the Cox MTC and meetings with members of the Cox field operations team to see how our region stays online and connected!
