CaliBaja Friday with Assemblymember David Alvarez

Assemblymember David Alvarez hosts CaliBaja Fridays, a series of informative sessions focused on various sectors of the binational region. This month, the Chamber had the opportunity to join him on visits to the Port of San Diego and the Port of Ensenada to learn about their economic impacts on tourism and trade. The trip started in San Diego, where members toured the B Street Cruise Terminal and learned about opportunities to expand to welcome more tourists. We then toured the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal with Dole Company, where we heard about their sustainable efforts to reduce emissions. Through this terminal, Dole delivers throughout the West Coast and takes them 21 days to come back from Latin America to then repeat their cycle of transportation. The last terminal to visit from the Port of San Diego was the National City Marine Terminal, where the majority of its arrivals are automobiles arriving from all parts of the world, including our neighbors in Mexico via rail and trucks.

The group then headed south of the border to the Port of Ensenada, operated by the Mexican federal administration and its military. This port is also going through expansion construction for commerce and cruise ship arrival. Members also learned that this port is the first green port of Mexico, which connects to 64 ports in 28 countries. This further demonstrates how both ports connect our binational region to the rest of the world, elevating our region’s global competitiveness.
