Last month, the Chamber led its 19th annual binational delegation trip to Mexico City, where one of the key topics was infrastructure investments to mitigate the transboundary pollution crisis in our region. During this trip, the Chamber presented a two-pager commissioned by Prebys Foundation on a report that they are working on that addresses further actions from governments on both sides of the border. The Chamber has since held ongoing conversations with Prebys Foundation, including addressing a letter to the IBWC Commissioner Chad McIntosh, to consider public comment as they look ahead to the implementation of the new Minute expected by the end of this year. This letter included recommendations for consideration, including ensuring adequate funding for the completion, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure projects; updating pending items under the new minute, including clear timelines; and advancing the development of a master plan for growth that enhances a reporting mechanism to promote transparency and accountability. The federal administration has responded to our letter, stating that, while public comment is not possible due to ongoing negotiations with a foreign country, they will consider our recommendations. Prebys Foundation is working to finalize and release the report by the end of this year.
