Chamber CEO Jerry Sanders and the IPA team met with Senator-Elect for the State of Baja California, Gustavo Sanchez, earlier this month to congratulate him on his recent election to the Mexican Senate. Sanchez previously served as Mayor of Mexicali (2016-2019), having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of San Diego under Mayor Faulconer’s leadership to enhance cross-border economic, educational, and diplomatic ties.  

The conversation highlighted the importance of continued communication and collaboration to boost CaliBaja’s economy and enhance global competitiveness. The Chamber extended an invitation to join this year’s Binational Delegation trip to Mexico City in October and requested his support to secure meetings with the leadership of key Senate Commissions including Economy, USMCA, North America Affairs, Environment, and Immigration. Senator-Elect Sanchez addressed the importance of community engagement and shared his commitment to be present in Baja California as often as possible during his term as a Senator, to further connect government, industry, and regional stakeholders.
